The quiet blog…

It’s been quiet here for a while, there hasn’t been a whole lot of time for the computer lately!  To be honest, I think I may have been depressed!  Yes, I know it’s hard to believe that I could possibly get depressed, and I’m not really sure when it happened, but I’m pretty sure that is what the problem was.  I was cleaning some days, and working at the preschool.  I’m sorry, but  I don’t think I could ever be career woman. I love my kids too much!  I now don’t have the guilt over leaving the little ones or missing the goofiness that comes from the older ones.  I’m still busy, but it’s doing what I love for the people I love.

School is going good, we have our days where one or more don’t want to do their work, but I really feel they are learning!  Abeka is a curriculum that will push them, and they need it!  If I could just get myself organized!  Soooooo many books!  Sometimes it’s overwhelming.  Tabitha has started kindergarten with a little girl from church.  I’m not sure if she’ll be able to grasp it all, but it’s teaching her structure anyway.  I’m loving teaching these two, they are sooo much fun!  I love seeing the light come on when they finally get it.   They play so good together!  Girls can be so catty sometimes, I was a little worried they would fight, but so far they are doing great.

I haven’t shared any pictures of the ranch where Jonathan spent 5 weeks over the summer, so I’ll close with them.  I can see why he loved it and wants to go back.  I just hate the thought of it though.  Next year, he wants to go for the entire summer.

Cowboy Town

Titus was terrified of the horses, but as usual Caleb loved them.  He loves animals, no matter the size.

Play dough

Well, I’ve had a hard time getting back into the rhythm  of school since Christmas.  I don’t know what it is, I just don’t want to do it.  I know it is terrible, but it is just fact! DSCN7791

Sad, the kids pick up on it quickly, and they have no motivation at all.  Well, I’ve been doing some reading and research, and I do believe I’m getting back on track.  We have a lot to catch up on, but I think we can do it before the end of the year.  I do not feel like I can properly teach my teens all the way through high school, there is way too much stuff I know nothing about, but with the help of the internet we are making some progress.  For all it’s problems, you tube is beginning to be a favorite of mine!  There are soooo many instructional movies on there!  You can even find the science experiments they need to do.  We don’t have the stuff to do them, but at least they can watch them being done.  Tabitha is slowly learning some stuff.  She is learning her colors and shapes and how to count.

DSCN7864According to Tabs, the red, pink, and purple crayons are “girl”crayons. The rest are boy! lol

She is super smart, and picks everything up quickly, but I often have issues trying to keep her busy during school.  So today, we tried something, I had heard of home made play dough, but had never attempted to make it myself.  Wellllllll, if you have little ones, I highly recommend making your own.  Chances are you have everything you need in the pantry other than cream of tartar, and it’s easy.

Tabs helped with the makings…

It took less than 10 minutes to make, and she was busy almost the entire time we were working on school!

She had a blast, and the best part  we have all agreed, it doesn’t smell like regular play dough!  We used strawberry banana jello, and it has a wonderful strawberry scent!!

1 cup flour

1/2 cup salt

2Tbls cream of tartar

1 cup warm water

2Tbls oil

1 3 oz packet of jello

Mix it all together in pot, put it on stove and cook till thick while stirring  Knead while cooling, first with spoon then with hands until cool.  It should be smooth and lots of fun!  Tabs sprinkled in some glitter while it was cooking, just because she likes everything shiny!  You don’t have to add the jello, but it does make it smell good, and there are tons of recipes online!

This and That…

I found this yesterday…

One of the Beans had copied Titus’ hand with the copier.   (I just love seeing how cubby his little hands are!)  I will probably keep it forever!

The Beans are finished with their 9 week exams, now!  Yay!  (Yes, I know it is taking forever for us to get through with school!)

Pepto is becoming my constant companion!  Yum!

Tabitha knows the colors green and yellow so far!  Sometimes she gets others, but almost always gets green  and yellow!

She can also count to 6 most of the time.

I called about drivers ed this morning, Jonathan can start Nov. 28. (I can’t believe he is old enough to take drivers ed!).

I bought Leah her first pair of hose last week!  Gasp! (She is growing up tooooo fast!)    She looked a little odd wearing socks with lace around the top. lol

Seth amazes me with his piano.  He hasn’t had lessons in almost a year, yet he still progresses! (Watch facebook, I may be able to post a video later!  He hates it!)

Caleb is doing great with school this year!  His spelling is still a little off, but I learned if I shorten the list from 30 to 15 words a week he does great! (It will just take us forever to get through with his spelling, but I’d rather him get them than struggle!)

I realized last week I’ve been homeschooling for over seven years now!  You would think I’d have this thing figured out by now.   I’m starting to wonder what doing unit studies would be like, and if I’d be organized enough to switch up our school year next year.  Pray with me about it, I’d love to be able to do things differently!

Been praying for  a little girl named Katerina.  She is being adopted from somewhere unknown.  Precious little one with down syndrom, her parents go to pick her up the 18th.  You can find her story here  http://theblessingofverity.com/ but there is a warning, it will break your heart!  Such a long way to go for this little one, yet it is amazing what the God has done to bring her home!

His favorite place is outside of course, and he loves balls!

Such a snuggle bug this one is!  He loves Seth!  Seth is forever showing him something or lifting him up so he can reach the light chain.   Caleb can get him to laughing hysterically, which is what Caleb does!  And Leah tends to “baby” him, but he loves it!  Most of the time Titus and Jonathan get a long, but every once in a while, Jonathan has no patience for him. Today, Jo and Tidy were playing soccer!

Tabitha and Titus get a long pretty good until she puts her hands on him, then it’s on!

Daddy lets him drink from his cup, I do not!

Yes, I have gone crazy!

Recently, I was talking to a long time friend about homeschooling. She was telling me of all the wonderful things she did with her kids, and how they were learning about all these cool things.  I felt a little discouraged because I wasn’t doing any “fun” things with my kids during school.  So I started researching fun things to do during school.  Well, I found tons of ideas for little ones, but I haven’t come across too many for the older ones.  If you are friends with me on facebook, you can see the beginning video there.  She was a little hesitant at the first, but she really got into it!

She started off small, with the shaving cream in the pan.

Then she progressed to the chalk board.

Oh, she was having some fun!

Painting, painting, painting…

“This looks so pretty!”

She really got into painting the chalkboard!

Such fun, “can we do it again???”

Squish, squish even Leah got in on the fun!

Titus sure didn’t know what to think!

Don’t ya know, Tabitha was encouraging him!

Poor Tidy, he didn’t know what to think!

But Tabs enjoyed herself!

Snow Day

Yesterday, we had our first snow day here in NC, I even let the beans have off from school.  They had such a good time playing in the snow.  I think snow is the only thing they really miss other than friends from when we lived in Maryland.  We need a good hill though. Not many hills in this part of the state.   They were so tired last night Caleb started to fall asleep on the couch.  A rare thing indeed!   This morning Jonathan said he is sore, from what I have no idea, but he must have used muscles that isn’t used much.  Today, we had to get back to work.  Miss Tabitha was such a good girl this morning!  Spelling, math,  and phonics tests were taken, sentences were diagrammed, and teachers outfits were made fun of!  (Thankfully it was the dvd teachers outfits!)  Here are some pictures of the beans last two days!
